Platform Standards Reference
| Platform | Target LUFS | True Peak Max | Channels | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify | −14 LUFS | −1 dBTP | Mono / Stereo | Normalizes on playback; files above −14 are turned down |
| Apple Podcasts | −16 LUFS | −1 dBTP | Mono recommended | Smart Speed may alter perceived dynamics |
| YouTube | −14 LUFS | −1 dBTP | Mono / Stereo | Normalizes to −14 LUFS; no boost applied to quiet uploads |
| General Podcast | −16 LUFS | −1 dBTP | Mono / Stereo | Industry best practice; passes all platforms with headroom |
Recommended: −16 LUFS integrated loudness with a true peak of −1 dBTP is the safest universal target — it meets or exceeds all three platforms while leaving headroom. Mono output halves file size and avoids stereo imaging issues in earbuds and car speakers.
About platform normalization: Spotify and YouTube normalize loudness on playback. Uploading too hot (above −14 LUFS) gets automatically turned down. Uploading too quiet may trigger a boost, raising your noise floor. Normalizing before upload ensures your episode sounds exactly as intended.
