Platform Standards Reference
Platform Target LUFS True Peak Max Channels Notes
Spotify −14 LUFS −1 dBTP Mono / Stereo Normalizes on playback; files above −14 are turned down
Apple Podcasts −16 LUFS −1 dBTP Mono recommended Smart Speed may alter perceived dynamics
YouTube −14 LUFS −1 dBTP Mono / Stereo Normalizes to −14 LUFS; no boost applied to quiet uploads
General Podcast −16 LUFS −1 dBTP Mono / Stereo Industry best practice; passes all platforms with headroom
Recommended: −16 LUFS integrated loudness with a true peak of −1 dBTP is the safest universal target — it meets or exceeds all three platforms while leaving headroom. Mono output halves file size and avoids stereo imaging issues in earbuds and car speakers.
About platform normalization: Spotify and YouTube normalize loudness on playback. Uploading too hot (above −14 LUFS) gets automatically turned down. Uploading too quiet may trigger a boost, raising your noise floor. Normalizing before upload ensures your episode sounds exactly as intended.
